En este libro, Juan Manuel López Zafra defiende la tesis contraria. Apuesta por la combinación de un retorno al patrón oro con un coeficiente de caja del cien por cien por parte de los bancos para evitar la sucesión de burbujas que venimos padeciendo. Y es que ¿habríamos padecido con la misma virulencia las últimas crisis financieras si hubiera estado vigente el patrón oro liquidado en sucesivas etapas, primero por Roosevelt en 1933, luego por los acuerdos de Bretton Woods en 1944 y finalmente por Nixon en 1971? El autor es uno de los muchos economistas que han promovido la defensa de dicho sistema de valoración como un referente de la política monetaria sostenible. Básicamente, porque los sistemas monetarios respaldados por el oro siempre han estado alejados de las manipulaciones de políticos y banqueros. Partidario de las tesis de la escuela austríaca, López Zafra hace hincapié en cómo todos los intentos históricos de acabar con el patrón oro han fracasado, a pesar de que el periodo actual, que prevalece ya más de cuarenta años, es el más largo. Además, establece los principios que deberían sustentar los responsables políticos y económicos para devolver al ciudadano el legítimo poder que la expansión crediticia y la deuda les han retirado.

Juan Manuel López Zafra es Doctor en Economía y actuario. Es profesor en el CUNEF, donde codirige el Máster en Data Science para Finanzas y el Programa Ejecutivo de Data Science y Transformación Digital. Está especializado en el tratamiento de datos y su posterior análisis en los sectores financiero, asegurador, turístico y del automóvil, así como en la aplicación de técnicas de ciencia de datos a las ciencias sociales. En 2007 fundó Statpro 2000 Clima SL, una empresa de consultoría de análisis de datos. Es autor de Retorno al Patrón Oro (Deusto, 2014) y colabora con diversos medios de comunicación, tales como El Confidencial y Capital Radio.
